What are the headstones made out of?
All the headstones we import are granite, which is a very hard long lasting stone that takes a good polish. We can also supply marble if requested.
How long does the lettering last?
The inscriptions are sandblasted in to the stone, so will be there for hundreds of years. The silver is painted in and does eventually fade or wear off, but can easily be restored.
How much does a headstone cost?
Headstones vary so widely in size and colour and shape. A small panel starts at around $300.00 A headstone may have 3 -4 pieces, and depending on artwork, inscription, ceramic photos etc could be anywhere from around $900 to $6000.00 plus. An average sized headstone, finished and installed at a cemetery $1500.00 - $2000.00
Can I use a rock?
Yes. Certain types of rock can be used. They have to be approved by the Council as suitable to install in a cemetery. Oamaru stone, sandstone, schist, are not allowed in Invercargill City Council Cemeteries. They can be cut and polished and inscribed, or a panel can be attached.
